1. Necessity of conducting the scientific forum
The idea of the project is to be organized a conference for students from all scientific fields in UNWE which cause interest among colleagues from other universities at home and abroad. We chose the topic "European Union 2020", because it is one of the most common topics and it proposes debate on issues on the strategy which is key for EU countries. The aim is to attract students with different interests, in order to maintain a high level of interest to the conference, participants are provided five specialized panels within the context of the main theme. After the official opening of the first student conference in UNWE of this scale and format, the conduct of the initial part consists of a general public lecture and presentation of some of the most comprehensive reports, followed by sessions in the following specialized panels: "Monetary union and monetary Policy”, “Market labour and new sources of HR”, “Education and science”, "Political development and security policy”.
International Student Scientific Conference "European Union 2020" is an initiative of the Student Council of University of National and World Economy, as part of a longstanding traditional event, called “Youth Economic Forum”, launched successfully in 2005 and conducted annually. Over the years the initiative has been developed and expanded its scale several times. Duration was increased -more hours and in several days, increasing the prestige of the event and its authority at university and national level. Over the past six editions of the Forum our guest speakers were leading figures from politics, business and academic life. Youth Economic Forum has become a tradition for the student and academic community at UNWE.
The aim of the forthcoming conference is the best students to demonstrate their achievements and test their knowledge in a competitive environment. We believe that there is no more appropriate occasion than the 90th jubilee anniversary year of UNWE to initiate such an ambitious event.
2. Potential participants
We anticipate that in the conference are going to participate students from different majors, as one of our goals is to have broad representation of different scientific fields, scientific and professional interests that are of great interest to our colleagues. Students from universities across the country and those from foreign universities who are studying in UNWE, including the young people who will be trained on Erasmus Mundus during the winter semester of the academic 2010/2011. We expect an increased interest from students from universities in neighbouring countries of Bulgaria.
The topic "European Union 2020" has the advantage to offer wide opportunities for creative researches among potential participants. In the opinion of teachers in UNWE professionally involved with this theme, such title will attract high interest among young colleagues, because it allows to address issues of economic, political, social and public spheres, even if it focuses on more specialized topics of finance, agriculture, energy, environment and others.
Because of the rich opportunities offered by the topic, five main panels are prepared to direct the development of reports in the context of the topic.
3. Expected results and opportunities for realization
The expected results from the project may be limited to:
• Presentation of visions and strategies for the future of the European Union after 10 years in order to sufficiently reflect the views of young people in the context of the "Europe 2020".
• Increasing general and professional training, promoting and deepening research interests of students from all scientific fields in UNWE.
• Improving the absorption of the educational material. Construction of new elements of "practical application" of theory because of the opportunity for participants to work on the problem field and collide with other views that are grounded and have insightful perspectives.
• Providing appropriate conditions for a place for students to perform in non-academic environment in which they relate their knowledge and achievements with those of other young people and to exchange ideas and professional research.
• Encouraging professional contacts of students with their teachers in non-academic environment because of the necessity of reviewing the reports and obtaining specialist advice for their preparation and writing.
• Publication of the best works by participants in the conference "European Union 2020" in a collection edited by the Program Board of the scientific forum and met their requirements for volume, quality and positive review.
• Improving the quality of education in UNWE with European educational standards through the inclusion of a wide range of students to academic life of the university, its values and traditions.
